Gilgit Baltistan


Gilgit-Baltistan is a beautiful tourist destination in Pakistan. The world's four famous mountain ranges, the Himalayas, the Karakorams, the Hindukush and the Pamirs meet here. Its a untouched raw spectacle of nature loved by mountaineers and climbers from all over the world.

Its was formerly known as the Northern areas of Pakistan, but in the 1970s after the amalgamation of Gilgit Agency and Baltistan, this area was named as Gilgit Baltistan. it is located west to the Khyber Pakhtunkwa provice, with Afghanistan to the north and the Chinese border to the east. It's north east borders touch Jammu and Kashmir.

Gilgit Baltistan has been a major stop over town on the legendary Silk Route for centuries and many ancient travellers have mentioned it in their travel journals. In olden days it was the corridor through which Buddhism passed from India into China and all of South East Asia. Till today many Buddha statues and wall carving can be seen here in the mountains near Gilgit.
